How to choose the right lifting cage for your construction site

When working on high-rise construction projects in the UAE, safety is the primary concern when lifting heavy masonry materials or transporting personnel vertically. A lifting cage is a structural steel enclosure designed to prevent spills and handle intense rigging forces, but choosing the wrong one can lead to site delays or safety violations.

1. Capacity and Load Limits

Ensure you select a cage rated for your maximum payload. For concrete blocks and heavy bricks, a 1,500kg to 2,500kg capacity block lifting cage is standard. For lighter tools, a 500kg material cage may suffice.

2. Crane vs. Forklift Compatibility

Some cages are equipped with fork pocket sleeves for easy forklift movement, while others rely entirely on four-point lifting chains. Select a multi-configuration cage if your site utilizes both cranes and telehandlers.

3. Compliance and Inspection

In the GCC, lifting equipment must be designed for third-party load testing and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) inspection. Verify that your fabricator provides certified weld standards and WLL (Working Load Limit) markings.
